What is an audiobook?

Hello, I'm grandma Bess.

I love to read books, but my eyes are often tired.  There must be a better way to read books. I better ask my grandson.

Hello, it's grandma Bess. I would like to read books but my eyes are often tired. Is there a better way to read books?

Florian: Hello Grandma. What you need is an audiobook.

Grandma Bess: What is an audiobook?

Florian: An audiobook is a recording of a book. A narrator reads the text of the book and it is recorded on a CD or in a digital file. Audiobooks can be listened to on a computer, a smartphone or on a CD player.

Grandma Bess: And why do people listen to audiobooks?

Florian: For many reasons. Blind or visually impaired people can enjoy books this way. Many people listen to audiobooks in cars or during doing other tasks to have fun or to study new things.

Grandma Bess: Let's see if I understood you correctly. An audiobook is a recording of a book. People can listen to them on a smartphone or on a CD player. It is ideal for people with low vision or those who want to enjoy a book during travelling or doing other tasks.

Thank you very much, you've helped me a lot.
